Jason Goodfriend is a freelance illustrator and visual development artist based in New York. He specializes in telling meaningful stories through imaginative visual narratives, original characters, and innovative environment designs.

He is open to new opportunities to work on animated projects in a variety of roles such as Background Painter, Background Layout Artist, Prop Artist, and Visual Development Artist.

Currently, Jason is working on a personal visual development project called The Boundary Layer, an imaginary world that exists at the scale of mosses.

Jason is a dedicated arts educator who offers professional and amateur workshops, alongside independent one-on-one teaching opportunities for young people, college students, and elders. His pedagogical practice prioritizes a student-centered approach that emphasizes technical proficiency, conceptual exploration, and individual expression.

He’s taught classes in environment and character design, plein-air painting, digital painting, and figure drawing that inspire students to think critically and creatively as they solve visual communication challenges.
